Lights! Camera! EAT! My Coverage of The Taste!

This past weekend marked another epic weekend in eating. It was Labor Day Weekend which in the “Foodie Community” means it’s once again time for The Taste! LA Times’ puts on an amazing event at Paramount Studios where over 50 white pop-up tents line the historical backlot. I was lucky enough to attend 3 out of the 5 events and too be honest, I don’t think my waistline could have afforded any more!

The festivities started Friday night with an exclusive Grand Opening Party hosted by Don Julio Tequila complete with a Beatles tribute band. What, no mariachi band?

Day two’s events started with Field to Fork, bringing together local farmers and LA chefs. Russ Parsons, The Times’ Food Editor, hosted the event that was all about showcasing the fresh and local ingredients being offered in some of the city’s best restaurants.

One of my favorite dishes came from Good Girl Dinette in Highland Park. They combined local stone fruit (peaches and plums) with licorice to create scrumptious hand pies!

After taking a few hours to cool off from the brutal heat, I ventured back over to Paramount for Saturday evening’s event, “Flavors of LA”. The Times' Restaurant Critic, Jonathan Gold, hosted the night featuring LA’s interpretation of  dishes from around the world. The night was co-hosted by Sang Yoon, chef/owner of Father's Office and Lukshon

Some standouts for me were the burgers from The Counter, the roasted pork tenderloin from Sysco (not the Thong Song guy) and of course the Dan Dan Noodles from Lukshon.

I had the chance to brave the heat one more day and attend the Labor Day Block Party hosted by The Times' Test Kitchen Director, Noelle Carter.  This event  focused on one of summer's favorite family pastimes - barbecue! It certainly was a day for the whole family (kids tickets were only $5!) full of balloon animals, face painting, and… oysters. Obviously they had to have something for the whole family and L&E Oysters were shucking out some of the tastiest crustaceans on the block.
